Maria Daskalakis f/w 2009 collection ( portfolio )

Maria Daskalakis

Beautiful People
fall / winter '09

Maria Daskalakis is suprisingly in her final year at Pansik Scuola Di Moda studying fashion design and has already left her mark at the industry.Following from the last season's mind blowing collection which gained her 2 awards for her spring summer '09 collection Best Catwalk & Best Trendsetter. She had once told an interviewer that she had the finger on the pulse of fashion. This season She has returned with her combined theme of London sophisticates mixed with the dark New York underground twisted with Amsterdam sleeze.
As a teenager Maria immersed herself in club culture observing the beuatiful people, when her fruitful source of inspiration is still the temptress.
Maria after her last collection at the Fashion Week at Gazi, with a less provocative but more interesting collection, where she used the colour effect of silk as her main platform,is now working on her own studio.

Indulge yourself some colour ( portfolio merchandising )

The ultimate way to introduce your spring/summer collection to your customers is the use of colour.

The colour effect is a very effective way, to attract the viewer's eyes to your window display theme. At this concept we use 1000 meters (1km) in 10 hues of the basic colours (green, red, blue).Placing them one next to another (very carefully in order to avoid gaps) and always following a specific order to create harmony, we have created a wallpaper (according to the hues of the merchandise that was going to be dislayed). This action gave us the effect of long and wide window (even though the space was not) and also was the ideal way for displaying monocromatic outfits. The use of the sign "Welcome spring/summer 2010" except of informative had also a decorative character,by giving depth in the window to the viewer's eyes.

A major success factor for this concept is the lighting. The selection of the decoration material is suggested to have shinny elements (saten, silk, tafeta fabrics) in order to reflect the light and not to absorb it.
Because of it's vivid nature the window, will display better basic garments of wardrobe and only simple designed accessories and clothes.

STYLIST the interpreters of fashion

Image-makers,trendsetters,tastemakers,visionaries:

Stylists posses the rare ability to cast a spell over the world around them and tap into the creative consciousness of a moment.Never before has the role of the stylist been so enmershed in popular culture.Their personal touches and flights of imagination are reflected in genres as diverse as music videos, fashion and fine art photography, and the celebrity editorial.Today, the stylist has taken a leap from behind-the-scenes choreographer to front-row fantasist, conjuring up visual marvels with top designers for the glossy pages of fashion magazines and unleashing dreamy pastiches whose influences derive from the mediums of film, photography, and painting among others.
Each of the stylist is a combination of personality, individual flair and upbringing, but what becomes clear is that they all have one thing in common:
it's the creative process that compels them to continue inventing and reinventing style.

Fashion & Science ( portfolio merchandising )

After the end of the summer period, concepts usually comes around of children and their activities at school, especially at jeans retailers, in or out of big cities. But how can you approach a theme, that has been made again and again without sharing with your costumers the same feeling, every year?

The  answer lays on the nature of the decoration.

Fashion and science as a concept, is a mixture of surrealism, fashion and sculpture. The concept required 14.000 strolls, for decorating the back of the wall and the base, giving you the feeling of a sculpture because of it unusual shape.

One by one the strolls were placing next to each other, creating the illusion of depth in the whole window.

Fashion & Science was divided in two (2) sections:
Men’s wear, was representing the “antigravity” experiment on physics. All strolls were lifting up,ending hanging upside down on the top of the window, as a room without gravity.

Women wear, was representing the “geometry” theory on mathematics. All strolls, were placed with a specific way,to represent a “ruler on the back wall  of the window.

At the entrance of the shop, were placed envelopes for informing customers,  about the alternative materials that have been used,by new generation artists for sculptures, all over the word. The envelope was also contained the story of surrealism and a list of art books, similar to the window concept,in order them to be “educated” at the same way as school does.

                                              Welcome to fashion school ..

Denim Alert ( portfolio merchandising )

At this experimental concept instead of attempting the viewers attention,we found a way to demand it.
The idea was to use something beyond the obvious clever decoration and display and tryed to approach it from the angle of interactive section.
The concept idea, is to give the window a sense of intelligence, for understanding the customer/viewer presence.
A motion detector was having the role of the "windows eyes" and ten (10) blue lighthouses were receiving
it's order. So when someone was passing by the shop, was activating the "Denim alert system" and everything were activated by themselves, forcing them to come back step into the shop, trying to finger out what happened.

It is extremely important for consumers to be stimulated,to discover and be introduced to new products and alternative channels of communications, if a retail asks for their loyalty.

So step by step we use blue tape to create a vivid image of the "window field" and starting positioning the lighthouses at the bottom and the wall, targeting in the full use of the rotating blue colour effect. To make these lights more obvious to the viewers eyes,we constructed a place for the base of the window.

The use of blue is selected as a connection between the jeans identity of the retailer with the window theme, which named "Denim Alert".

The use of blue tape also creates the illusion of more space in a window if this effect is required.

The follow video it will give you a taste of the customers experience during this concept.
When someone was passing through, and the window was "activated",made them so curious about what they have caused and have returned back immediately to find an answer to their question.
Enjoy the experience:

Art & fashion ( portfolio merchandising )

Art  seems to be as inexhaustible and unpredictable as real human beings...

The above window was designed for branding promotion .

Having in mind that art influences and "speaks" in a different way to each one of us,i liked the idea to go arty!
The concept in order to be clear to everyone, needed some "clues" of indendifications. The art means to create,to experiment,to express thoughts and beliefs in a white canvas..Right...A white canvas..
So i started to imagine a scene of art..
An artist at his workshop trying to create a piece of art.
What we need to transform this thought into a window?
A piece of white canvas,a brush,a vivid hue of red colour, and a paint easel.
The placement was minimalistic without any mannequins, fact that we use to emphasize at the merchandise of the store, jeans.
The lighting placement had to be accurate for giving hight impact on the viewers eye.
The concept demanded from the viewer to associate the product of the shop,as  highly quality product with a sense of a personal character,as the true pieces of art.
Unique as the art.

Modus Vivendi ( portfolio styling )

Modus Vivendi

The artist can withrwaw into his private world and concern himself with the mysteries of his craft and with the dreams of his childhood, provided,at least lives up to the public's notion of what art is about.

"Visionary along with the audacious,
one sole definition,
we shall not stand,
because he flirts with absurdity
yet light he gave
and though incongruous with his times,
the time he speaks,
eternity is measured as light performs
the sight enchanted
what is deciphered,
that
the future beholds."
