Applique (fashion dictionary)

From the French, appliquer (meaning to apply), is the method of decorating garments (no restriction to clothes only), whereby pieces of fabric or other materilas, such as beads and sequins, are sewn on to a foundation fabric.
Appliques cannot be combined with different types of needlework to create luxurious designs.
