Each artist/designer from each studio in The Manchester Craft and Design Centre has been asked to customize a plain white T for an auction to raise money for the businesses who were affected in the riots that happened in Manchester. Well, we freaked out a bit, as we don’t do T-shirts very well, but we do do jewellery quite well. So we thought we would make our T-shirt into a necklace.
All you need is a cotton T shirt so….
Grab one pair of fabric scissors. With them cut the hem off the bottom of the t-shirt.
Then cut up the T-shirt up into loops about 1 inch thick. I managed to get about 15 out of the T-shirt I had which was a man’s medium. Then stretch the loops of fabric and they should naturally curl at the edges (which is great for disguising dodgy cutting skills.) Once this is done double the fabric loops keeping the seams together. Using a bit of extra T-shirt material, wrap it round the seams to keep together and to neaten up.
And there you go, your very own T-shirt necklace…
