Like the leather harness that sits as an element of it, the fetish trend that was so big in 2009 has softened. So has its influence upon fashion, generally speaking; but there remain editorials and collections that take those fetish and bondage elements and present them in a new light. Provocateur starring Nimue Smit is a prime example. Shapes are less pointed, more rounded – from sleeves to peter pan collars. Waists are vintage-high. Makeup has a ’60s pop-art meets Clockwork Orange feel. It may have the black and white palette, the lingerie, and the Night Porter-esque headwear, but there’s always an underlying sense of sweetness to the soft fetishism.
